The core of each Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital element in the Space Key.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera, which took each of the individual shots which were then combined into the final image. The result is a photograph that is completely out of the world. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there isn’t a specific date or location yet.
